Refrigeration Demands of Hot Weather: Is Your System Ready For It?

Refrigeration Demands of Hot Weather: Is Your System Ready For It?

Summer is coming and with it brings heat, dust and humidity – all of which contribute to an increased workload for your refrigeration system.

Regular maintenance is your best defence against unnecessary operating costs and catastrophic system failure so to ensure a smooth and profitable season, here are some ways to optimize the performance of your industrial refrigeration system.

Cleanliness

As air is forced over the condensing and evaporating coils in your refrigerator, dust and dirt will inevitably begin to collect in the air filters.

Once the air filters become excessively dirty you will see a drastic increase in energy consumption as your refrigerator has to work harder to move air through the system.

Further neglect could even lead to dirt bypassing the filters, causing larger issues.

Along with changing the air filters, it’s also important to clean your coils, drain pan and fan blades. Any sort of dust and debris in your cooling system will inhibit its ability to properly absorbed disperse heat, costing you money.

Check Fluid Levels

Your industrial refrigeration system has a lot of moving parts that need to stay lubricated. Make sure your compressor has enough oil to avoid the need for an overhaul down the road.

Other parts should be able to rotate freely:

You also want to make sure your refrigerant is at a proper level. Your refrigerant line sight glass should be clear and any air in the line could indicate a leak, requiring immediate repair.

Check for Worn or Damaged Parts

Any parts showing signs of wear or stress should be addressed sooner than later.

Hoses that are rubbing on other surfaces may eventually leak and fluid line insulation that’s damaged or saturated with water will rob your systems efficiency.

Fan blades should also be inspected for loose screws and any blades showing signs of stress or unusual wear patterns should be replaced.

Professional Maintenance

While some of these tasks, and some additional energy saving techniques, can be done by you, for safety and quality assurance purposes its best that system diagnostics and maintenance are performed by an experienced and licensed professional.
